Washington, D.C. — Today, Business Forward published a toolkit small business owners can use to help their employees register and vote. How To Help Your Employees Vote features best practices from some of America’s most respected companies, as well as trusted, non-partisan resources to help your employees learn more about candidates and issues on the ballot.

Today is also National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, honoring the more than 600,000 Americans who will help out at polling places and count the votes this year. These important (and paid) temp positions do not require previous experience.

In 2018, six out of 10 poll workers were in their 60s or older. This year, many of those older workers will have to stay home due to COVID-19. If you are looking for a way to get involved this election, we encourage you to contact Power the Polls for more information: learn more here.

“For years, America’s largest, more respected companies have been helping their employees register and vote,” explained Jim Doyle, president of Business Forward. “Their experience can be summed up in four lessons: Helping employees vote isn’t political; it doesn’t take much time or money; CEO engagement is key; and it’s good for your team’s culture.”

How To Help Your Employees Vote provides the basics on voting for small business owners, along with links to organizations that can help and non-partisan resources for employees interested in reading more about the candidates and the issues.

“America’s best CEOs are leading by example,” said Doyle. “They have made clear that it’s okay for citizens of good faith to disagree strongly, but we must commit ourselves to helping the most vulnerable among us exercise their right to vote.”
