Washington, DC — Last Friday, President Biden announced Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as his nominee to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. In response, more than 450 small business leaders signed a statement urging the Senate to move forward swiftly. More than 130 included individual comments explaining why a timely and fair confirmation process is important to their local business environment: Business Leader Statement on the Supreme Court Nominee.
Mary Traer, owner of Landscape Design Concepts in Raleigh, North Carolina, said, “Judicial appointments who have demonstrated a dedication to the rule of law are essential for Democratic institutions to survive and be stable… All businesses will benefit from such a well-qualified member of the Supreme Court.”
“America’s most respected companies recognize that prioritizing different voices makes their teams stronger. In seeking to increase diversity on the Court, President Biden is following the same principles that business leaders follow when hiring executives and building their boards,” added Liz Fairchild, Executive Director of Business Forward.
Jessica Johnson-Cope, President of Johnson Security Bureau, Inc. in the Bronx, New York, explained why Judge Jackson’s confirmation would be a boost for her business and community: “It’s important to have the prospect of a Justice who will understand and relate to my background and experiences.”
