Washington, D.C. — New York lawmakers and Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) reached an agreement on the Climate & Community Protection Act, and final votes are expected this week. Jim Doyle, President of Business Forward, released the following statement:
“CCPA establishes some of the most ambitious renewable goals in the country, but New York’s approach to achieving those standards is what stands out.”
“CCPA’s firm approach to offsets ensures that more of New York’s energy spending stays in-state. That’s huge, because New Yorkers traditionally import more than $50 billion in coal, gas, and oil each year. CCPA also directs 35% to 40% of new investment to New York communities affected most by pollution, ensuring jobs and infrastructure go where they are needed most.”
