Washington, DC — This morning, President Biden signed an executive order that will accelerate America’s clean energy transition by establishing ambitious sustainability goals across the federal government.

Liz Fairchild, Executive Director of Business Forward, issued the following statement in response:

“Today’s executive order establishes a new era for U.S. leadership on clean energy. The Biden Administration’s bold action demonstrates what can be done if Washington leverages the scale and purchasing power of the federal government.

The executive order sets ambitious targets for federal sustainability, including 100% clean electricity consumption by 2030, 100% zero-emission vehicle acquisitions by 2035, and net-zero emissions from federal operations and procurement by 2050.

It also includes ambitious plans to transform supply chain and procurement practices, achieve a net-zero building portfolio, and drive clean, healthy, and resilient operations across the federal government.”
