Washington, D.C. – Jim Doyle, President of Business Forward, issued the following statement in support of the U.S. Senate’s bipartisan border security bill.

“This bipartisan bill — the product of years of hard work by its Republican and Democrat sponsors — represents a strong start to securing our border. The faster Congress acts, the sooner border communities will benefit from additional border patrol agents, immigration judges, and asylum officers. The bill will also expedite the use of cutting-edge inspection machines to help detect and stop the flow of fentanyl; boost funding for cities and states that are sheltering migrants; and speed up work permits for small businesses and farms that depend on migrant workers.

Our network of local business leaders have ranked border security and immigration reform as two of their highest priorities, and they expect Congress to act quickly. Those who hold up action today in the hope of getting a ‘better’ bill in 2025 will share responsibility for the harm this bill could prevent.”
